A civilian and a police officer died on the spot as three others sustained serious injuries after they were involved in a road accident at Spring Park on Webuye-Eldoret road in Lugari sub-county.
Confirming the incident to K24 Digital, Lugari OCPD Bernard Ngungu said the accident happened when a motorcycle that was headed to Turbo from Mwamba tried to overtake a lorry.
Ndungu stated that one of the officers died on the spot while the second officer and the rider of the motorbike that caused the accident with his passenger sustained serious injuries.
“The boda boda rider who was headed to Turbo was trying to overtake a lorry and it was then that they had a head-on collision with the one that was coming from Turbo.
"The one who was coming from Turbo was carrying two police officers from Turbo Police Post and one of them died on the spot. The boda boda rider also died on the spot,” Ngungu stated.
Motorists asked to observe traffic rules to avoid accidents
He further called on the motorcycle riders to be keen and follow the traffic regulations to avoid such accidents.
“Let the rider be keen and follow the traffic rules to avoid such. They should know when to overtake and when not to,” he added.
The injured were taken to Turbo Sub-County Hospital where they were later transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for further treatment.
The two bodies were moved to Kimbilio Funeral Home in the neighbouring Uasin Gishu County.
