Two police officers based in Mombasa County are reported to have committed suicide.

In the first incident, police constable David Koech Kurgat was discovered dead, at Bandari Sacco's perimeter wall where he had been assigned duties to guard the Saccos disputed land in Kisauni.

According to a police statement by Ramadan Ali of Concordia Police Post, they were on patrol with the deceased that night.

Ali reported that Kurgat was discovered lying facing downward with blood oozing from his back and an AK 47 serial number KP 5501874 rifle laid beside him.

Following the incident, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and established that the deceased had been relieved of duty.

However, it is suspected that the deceased secretly sneaked back to the scene where he shot himself on the left side of the chest and died on the spot.

The report further revealed that the scene has been processed by scenes of crime personnel and the body moved to Coast General Mortuary awaiting to undergo postmortem.

In the second incident, a police officer from the General Service Unit attached to Nyali is reported to have committed suicide on Tuesday morning.

His body was discovered by the in-charge general service unit in Nyali at 11:45 am

Police constable Dennis Kamau Ndungu allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself using a firearm while in his room at an unknown time.

Three spent cartridges and a shattered Samsung mobile phone was recovered at the scene and kept as exhibits.
