Two police officers on Tuesday evening repulsed over 20 bandits who were planning to divert a lorry full of livestock in Moyale.

According to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Corporal Aden Koise and Constable Robert Njau exchanged fire with the bandits and managed the situation without sustaining injuries.

"This evening (Tuesday) at around 6pm, the two officers were escorting over 40 heads of cattle for slaughter in Nairobi, when they were ambushed by the bandits believed to be Samburu warriors," DCI said in a statement.

DCI added: "What followed was an exchange of fire that sent the bandits scampering for safety, as the officers unleashed an avalanche of fire that they had never experienced in their lifetime."

The lorry was under police escort after several incidences were reported in the area.

"In an attempt to capture the lorry and steal the cattle, the raiders fired at the cabin of the truck missing its occupants by a whisker. The aftermath was shocking," DCI stated.
