President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, April 25, announced an extension of the travel ban into and out of Nairobi, Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi counties by 21 days.

The Head of State also said the 7pm to 5am curfew remains in force for the next 21 days.

President Kenyatta had, on April 6, restricted movement into and out of the four counties to curb the spread of coronavirus. The initial 21-day restriction was to end on Sunday, April 26.

The president said his decision to extend the travel ban and curfew were informed by advice from the National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus and the National Security Council.

In his speech at State House-Nairobi, President Kenyatta also announced that seven more people had contracted the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing Kenya’s total COVID-19 cases to 343.

The Head of State also announced that three more people recovered from the disease, and the total number of recoveries now stand at 98.

Fatalities arising from coronavirus, the president said, remain at 14.

Kenya has thus far tested at least 17, 000 persons for coronavirus.
