A shop attendant in Kapretwa area of Saboti constituency in Trans Nzoia County is recuperating at Kitale County Referral Hospital after armed robbers broke into a shop and shot him in the right-hand shoulder.

Confirming the Sunday night incident, Saboti location Chief Protus Wechuli said an unknown number of armed thugs robbed the shop and dashed into the darkness.

“At around 7:15 pm, we received a distress call that robbers broke into Elijah Okisai Oruto’s business premises. We rushed there and rescued the businessman. We realized that his servant, Musa Waswa Mukawale had been shot in the right-hand shoulder, so we rushed him to Kitale County Referral hospital where he is being attended to," Wechuli said.

The local administrator said police have launched investigations and asked area residents to volunteer any information so that the suspects are nabbed and legal action taken against them.

“Our preliminary investigations indicate that the robbers had two guns. We are asking our people to report any suspect so that necessary action is taken against them” he appealed.

Wechuli further said it is suspected that the robbers who executed the offence are the same people who terrorized people at Gitwamba market a week ago.

“A similar incident was also reported in Gitwamba where a wholesale shop was robbed. The robbers are now coming downwards disturbing the peace,” he said.

Area leaders led by Saboti ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) condemned the incident and asked the security apparatus to beef up security in the area.

“While we condemn the heinous act, we want to ask the government to give us a police vehicle that will be stationed at Saboti police station so that it can be used to do night security patrols,” Cheloti said.

He also called for the deployment of more security officers in the area.

“Now that our National Police Reservists have been deployed to man security in some rich people’s farms, we demand that more security officers are deployed to our area. It is the government's responsibility to protect people and their properties” he added.
