A Pollman's Tours bus that was travelling from South Coast to Mombasa Island on Sunday morning plunged into the Indian Ocean at the Likoni Crossing Chanel.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver managed to escape after the bus brakes failed as he was trying to access the ferry.

The bus then slipped into the ocean in the incident that occurred at about 9am.

At the time of the accident, the tourists who were being ferried had already been dropped off at Diani the previous night and only the driver and his conductor remained onboard.

The conductor was rescued by a speed boat and the bus retrieved from the ocean by Kenya Coast Guard officers.
