The armed men who attacked a female motorist at the gate of her Ongata Rongai residence on Sunday morning are led by a former rogue police officer, K24 Digital has established.

"Preliminary reports show that the team of thugs that terrorized the woman is led by a former cop," a senior police officer within Kajiado told K24 Digital.

The AK47 rifle-wielding gang was captured on CCTV as they attacked the woman who was driving into her Rongai residence.

Detectives have profiled at least four of the thugs and are hunting them down.

In the 2:00 am incident video that has since gone viral on social media, two of the thugs are seen wielding pistols, another an AK-47, and the other a machete that he used to break the window of the car the lady was in.

One of the thugs who was wearing a balaclava is seen using the pistol to break the driver’s window and pulls the lady out.

The thugs were also seen taking her to the house where they ransacked for valuables.

In another video, one of the thugs is seen disconnecting a sound bar speaker as another walks out of another room.

Following the attack, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i visited the area accompanied by the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and the head of the DCI's Special Services Unit (SSU) Pius Gitari and assured the locals that necessary action will be taken.

The visit was a fact-finding mission on matters to do with security. Dr Matiangi directed the construction of Kandisi police post to commence immediately and later be upgraded to a police station.

A special team of detectives from the SSU have been deployed to the area to work hand in hand with their local counterparts. Gitari, a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) will oversee the security operations in the area.

To get a clearer picture of the security situation in the area, the CS directed that all criminal activities reported in Occurrence Books (OB) to be compiled and forwarded to his office by tomorrow.

"Entertainment joints and restaurants should not operate in between Kandisi and Rimpa stage as it's the purely residential area hosting various senior government officials," the brief to officers read.

A special team is expected to visit the scene to analyse the CCTV camera footage even as the CS urged the locals to volunteer information to the security officers.

Ngong Sub-County Police Commander Mecha Mogeni said they had crucial leads on the attack, especially regarding who the perpetrators were and who are hunting them.

“We have launched investigations and we have very crucial leads on who the perpetrators are. Let us give them time so that we catch them up and use it as an example,” Mogeni said.

Further, the OCPD said the thugs took away valuable household items from the house though no one was injured.

“Various household items were stolen from the house but no injuries were reported,” he added.

The local residents have in the past been complaining of rising cases of insecurity and have urged the police to act.

Detectives have so far arrested two suspects in connection to the robbery, with the first suspect arrested in Kasarani where he had withdrawn a total of Ksh240,000 from the victim's account at a shop in Mwiki, Kasarani.

The Mpesa agent, from where the cash was withdrawn was also arrested and is being interrogated. The man, who is the main suspect behind the daring attack is believed to be a former rogue police officer.
