Three police officers arrested by their colleagues over shooting incident

Three police officers were on Friday November 3, 2021 nabbed by their colleagues after they allegedly shot dead a civilian in Chokaa, Nairobi County.

The three officers identified as Hussein Ali, Elvis Kioko and Glaide Gagwa are currently being held at Ruai Police Station.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital and filed as Occurrence Book (OB) number 7/03/12/2021, Ali and Kioko spent a total of six bullets while Gagwa did not use fire even once.

In the process they allegedly shot dead Dennis Wayoike who is aged 29-years-old.

“It was reported by Patrol Team from Mawe Mbili that while they were on duty along Kang’undo they were informed by the report office Personnel that on Elvis Kipkirui an employee of Wapi Credit Limited that they were tracking a stolen motor cycle of registration number KMFW boxer that was red in color,” the report read in part.

According to the report, the motor cycle was tracked by the three officers to Chokaa area.

As they were keeping an eye on the road waiting to pounce on the motorbike in question, two suspicious motorbikes appeared one with a lone rider and the other with one pillion passenger.

The patrol team then tried to stop the two motorbikes but the riders made a quick U-turn and headed towards bypass.

It revealed that Ali fired three rounds of ammunition and Kioko also fired three rounds of ammunition. Police in the report said that the body of the deceased was recovered at 5pm.

“The body was discovered with gun shot wounds by members of the public who started shouting and barricaded Kang'undo road and the demonstrations lasted for about a whole hour,” the report read in part.

Officers drawn from Ruai Police Station attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and those from regular police visited the scene and pleaded with members of the public to stop the demonstrations.

The officers assured them that action will be taken against the suspects in the case.

“The scene was processed by scene of Crime Personnel and the body removed and Kenyatta University Mortuary pending an autopsy,” the report further revealed. This prompted the officers to disarm the three officers and went ahead to place them in custody as investigations go on.
