Three people lost their lives on the night of Wednesday, November 2, 2022, after a grisly road accident at Kiminini bridge along the Kitale-Webuye highway.

Confirming the fatal accident, Kiminini Sub-County Police Commander John Onditi said the accident which involved a lorry and a tractor was caused by careless driving.

"The driver of the lorry was on the wrong. He was overtaking a bus in a continuous yellow line, and that was when the lorry collided with the tractor" Onditi said.

Onditi added that the lorry overtaking the bus was ferrying livestock while the tractor was carrying maize harvest.

Kiminini location Chief, Samson Webi noted that five people who sustained injuries were rushed to Kiminini Cottage hospital where they are currently recuperating.

"The five who are in stable condition are being attended to at Kiminini Cottage hospital. The bodies of the three who lost their lives were also taken to Kiminini cottage hospital morgue," Webi said.

He called on drivers to observe traffic rules to deter avoidable road accidents.

"For sure this accident could have been avoided only if the lorry driver who perished had observed traffic rules. I am asking all drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules" he appealed.

There was traffic congestion along the busy highway, until very late in the night when the road was cleared by traffic police officers.
