Over 7,000 youths on Monday, September 18, 2023, thronged Embakasi Garrison grounds in Nairobi seeking to be recruited into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

This is following KDF's advertisement targeting graduates of the National Youth Service (NYS).

While KDF is seeking to recruit 350 officers, thousands of jobless youths showed up for the recruitment exercise.

In videos shared widely on social media, hordes of people are seen in the Embakasi Garrison grounds with some spilling across the main highway on the Eastern Bypass.

Reports indicate some of the young people who turned up were not graduates of the NYS but jobless youths seeking to change their fortunes amid the employment crisis in the country.

The ongoing recruitment comes two days after KDF unveiled the official list of prospective Specialist Officer Cadets and Tradesmen/Women. The list is available for viewing on the KDF's official website, accessible via the following link: https://bit.ly/48eucif.

KDF interviews

KDF announced that interviews for the shortlisted persons would commence on Monday, September 25, 2023, starting at 8:00 a.m.

Tradesmen and women are expected to report to Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi for their interviews.

Specialist Officer interviews will be conducted at KMA-Lanet in Nakuru County on Monday, October 16, 2023, also commencing at 8:00 a.m.
