Following a directive by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) that has seen some telecommunication companies call for re-registration of SIM cards, Kenyans have been left confused with most rushing to beat the April 15 deadline.

However, speaking at the Kuza Awards held at a Nairobi hotel, Communications Authority of Kenya's Director-General Ezra Chiloba noted that not everyone is required to register their details afresh.

He said that only unregistered lines need to be registered.

“The major complaint we have had is the requirement of photos and everything. The regulations do not anticipate that we are going to take a photograph of you.

“And so if you are duly registered, then you do not need to go to your operator and service provider to get re-registered,” Ezra Chiloba clarified.

If you are unsure about the status of your SIM card, this is how to check;

Dial *106# to affirm you are registered and whether the registered mobile numbers are yours.

“If you are in doubt about the status of your line registration, feel free to visit your telecommunications service provider, or dial the USSD code *106# to confirm your status,” Chiloba said as quoted by The Standard.
