Thika: Woman raped shortly after alighting from matatu

A middle-aged man is expected to be arraigned in court after he allegedly raped a young woman after threatening to kill her.

According to a police report, the woman alighted from a matatu while with her friend and headed to their respective homes.

While on her way, the victim identified as MM, met an unknown man who was going in the opposite direction.

"After she alighted a matatu in the company of her friend, they parted ways with each going to their respective homes. On her way, she met a middle-aged man who passed her and after a few meters, he turned back and followed her, whereby he threatened with a knife and led her to a nearby bush and forcefully raped her," the police report seen by K24 Digital stated.

Woman taken to hospital

MM proceeded to her friend's house and narrated the incident to her and the friend accepted to escort her to a nearby hospital.

On their way to the hospital, the two ladies met the suspect and raised an alarm, and members of the public responded subjecting him to mob justice.

"On their way to the hospital, they met the suspect and raised an alarm where members of the public responded. The public subjected him to a thorough beating and recovered a long sharp knife from him," the police report added.

The victim was rushed to Romkan Hospital where she was treated and discharged in a fair condition.

The suspect was rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital for treatment as the police continue with investigations.
