Residents of Soimet Village in Kuresoi South in Nakuru County have pleaded with the Kenya Power to swiftly replace a vandalised transformer so that they can resume businesses that rely on electricity to run.

On Monday night, an unknown gang destroyed the transformer, drained oil and hauled away the device’s essential parts.

Hellen Sigei, who owns an electric posh mill in the area, said her business has been grounded due to power interruption as a result of the vandalism.

Another resident, Joseph Too, said the destruction and theft was conducted by experts, who are skilled in disconnecting a transformer that has electric current passing through it.

“We have filed reports at a local police post, but no action has been taken yet. We are urging police to investigate the matter, and bring the culprits to book,” said Too.

Police, nonetheless, say they have launched a hunt for the vandals.
