Police in Tharaka Nithi are investigating an incident where a 31-year-old miraa vendor was found dead at a rented room in Kubumbu estate in Chuka town.

According to a police report, the body of Janet Mende Njeru was found decomposing after the landlord felt a foul smell emanating from the house.

Hastily, he informed the estate manager to check what had transpired. The two broke the window leading to the room and saw the decomposing body of the mother of two lying on the bed with blood stains on the floor.

Consequently, the duo reported the matter to police who hurriedly rushed to the scene.

The deceased's mother, Jenesia Karimi expressed shock and sorrow noting that her daughter had no history of illnesses.

"My daughter was selling miraa to feed her two children, she was not sick. The cause of her death should be established," she said.

Police have assured the family that they have launched investigations to establish the cause of her death.

Meanwhile, the deceased's body was moved to the Chuka county referral hospital mortuary.

"The body has been taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary and police have launched Investigations to establish the circumstances under which she died," Chuka township acting chief, Miriti Mbaka said.

Separate incident

Elsewhere residents of Kari village in Kahuro Murang’a are reeling in shock after the body of a middle-aged man was found dangling from a tree at his farm Friday morning.

Charles Moko had a knife stuck in his chest and the private parts were utterly severed off and put at the foot of the tree.

His body was spotted by his brother who was going to the toilet and when he saw something dangling on a tree.

Simon Mburu, a brother to Moko said a knife, a panga and a few personal items were also found on the ground.

He says it is not clear whether Moko is the one who took away his life or someone else did and hanged his body on the tree.

“We are hoping the police will do the investigations and unravel what could have transpired leading to his death,” he said.

Moko’s father David Mwangi, however, said his son could have taken away his life due to mental instability adding that he has been using bhang and his life has been chaotic.

The father said he pierced his ears with a hot metal bar and put sticks in the hole at one instance.

“His life was messy and we suspect he could have taken away his life but we will wait for the police to give us the answers,” he said.

Ruth Njoki another resident said this is the most bizarre incident that has been witnessed in the area.

“Moko used to work as a welder, we know him to be a quiet young man and we are shocked to see him killed in such a brutal way,” she said.
