Two police officers are fighting for their lives at the Mandera Referral Hospital after they were on Monday shot and wounded by Somali National Army soldiers on the Kenya- Somalia border.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the officers were in a team of eight comprising Kenya Police and Crime Investigative Police unit officers who were manning the border when two women of Somali origin were nabbed crossing into Kenya from Bulla Hawa in Somalia.

“They were being interviewed when Somali National Army officers manning their side about 10 meters away obstructed our officers from interviewing the two persons,” the report read in part.

Police said that the Somali soldiers were five in number.

The officers said that the situation at the border was tense and that Kenyan officers have been cautioned not to retaliate.
