Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 50-year-old man, whose body was found in a lodging at Salgaa trading centre in Nakuru on Saturday morning.

According to Salgaa chief, David Waweru, the man, who is said to be a high school teacher in Solai, was found lying dead on bed at 6am.

A cleaner at the lodging in which the man, identified as John Mathenge, booked himself into at 8pm Friday, made the shocking discovery when he had gone for routine cleaning of the rooms.

“When I knocked on the customer’s door, he did not open. I called my colleagues, who assisted in breaking down the door. Upon accessing the room, we found him lying on the bed on his back. We shortly thereafter established that he was already dead,” the cleaner told K24 Digital.

Boror Nyumba Kumi chairperson, Andrew Koros, said Mathenge had earlier Friday enjoyed his drinks at a pub in the area before booking himself into the lodging to spend the night.

No suspect(s) has been arrested in connection with Mathenge’s death.

The deceased was moved to Nakuru County Referral Hospital morgue as investigations into his demise continue.
