A taxi driver and his client have been charged with kidnapping a police officer who arrested them for obstruction in Westlands. They dumped him in Githurai.

Cosmas Kaai Kinyua and Wycliffe Nyangena Ogari who appeared before Milimani Law Courts are alleged to have committed the offence on March 17, 2022, at Wood Vale Groove Road within Westlands area.

"You kidnapped/abducted Nickson Sambach, a police officer on duty so that the said police officer may be subjected to danger or grievous harm," the charge sheet read in part.

According to a police report, the complainant was on duty with his colleagues when he stopped the accused persons for the offence of obstruction along the road.

"Cosmas Kaai Kinyua and Wycliffe Nyangena Ogari had parked a motor vehicle registration number KCT 579Q on the middle of the road along Wood Vale Groove which is a public road thereby obstructing other road users.

"The officer boarded the motor vehicle and instructed him to drive the said vehicle to the Parklands Police station for the offence of causing an obstruction," the report added.

The accused person declined to drive the vehicle to Parklands Police Station and instead drove at high speed towards Thika Road with the police officer on board.

Court was told that fearing for his life, the police officer pleaded with the tax driver to stop so that he could alight, but he never listened to his pleas.

They later dumped him at Githurai roundabout.

The two pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni and were released on a bond of Ksh300,000.
