Police in Mombasa have arrested five suspected thugs after their live TikTok video showcasing stolen items went viral.

According to DCI, the five- Vincent Ochieng, Shadrack Ochieng, Felix Otieno, Salim Ali and Shafi Yusuf- are part of a criminal gang operating within the Sargoi area in the coastal region.

Police say the quintet were nabbed after an intelligence-led operation based on some clothing captured on the video.

Upon their arrest, authorities recovered three iPhones, a Samsung phone, a Memojo phone, and a Bluetooth headphone among other items.

"Following an intelligence-led operation, a team of officers based at Central Police Station in Mombasa has arrested five individuals suspected to be members of an organized criminal group that has been operating within the Sargoi area and its neighbourhoods. The five suspects had earlier been captured in a video recording while displaying items that they had stolen from their victims," part of DCI's statement reads.

The five remain in police custody awaiting to be arraigned.
