Suspected drug trafficker Ali Punjani has dropped his two attorneys who were representing him in a bid to stop his arrest.

Reports show that the Mombasa-based tycoon sneaked into the country two weeks ago from India where he had travelled for medical treatment.

Sources revealed that Punjani stopped instructing the lawyers, Gerald Magolo and Jeff Asige, who had earlier arranged for his return from India, where he allegedly underwent heart surgery.

"He was discharged from hospital three weeks ago and stayed with a relative as arrangements were made on how he should come back into the country. He has since cut contacts with the lawyers," said the source, who sought anonymity.

One of his lawyers revealed that the billionaire, whose posh Nyali home was raided by police officers while he was away, said he is not in a hurry to apply for an anticipatory bail to bar investigative agencies from arresting or charging him in court.

Punjani's alleged arrival in the country is shrouded in mystery as police have refused to comment on the affair.
