Suspected Al Shabaab killed when planning to attack police stations in Kwale

Police in Coast region have foiled, a major terrorist attack targeting police stations and other security establishments in Kwale County.

Coast region police commander Paul Ndambuki said that investigations were ongoing to establish the identity of the suspects since, during the raid, no identification documents were recovered from the slain terror suspect.

However according to a police report, the elite police unit while acting on intelligence report, successfully raided suspected Al-Shabaab Militants hideout, in Bimbo Ngombeni location, Matuga sub county.

 "Officers drawn from the elite police unit, earlier today managed to raid a hideout for the militants, who had arrived in the country from Somalia, following our intelligence information police had established when the suspects left Somalia their final destination and whatever plans they had,” reads part of the police report.

According to the report, militants had planned to carry out terrorist attacks on Friday, targeting Security establishments within Kwale county with the intention of acquiring more firearms.

During the raid, one suspect was killed, while two others managed to escape with gunshot wounds.

Among items recovered during the raid were bomb-making materials and a cache of weapons.

"One Ak 47rifle,143rounds of ammunition special,100 grams of magnesium metal powder,3 electric bulbs, a note listing targeted police stations,337 rounds of 9*19mm, among other items communication gadgets among them a laptop and a flash disk "reads the report.

The police boss added that police had launched a manhunt for two other suspects who managed to escape, police dragnet during the raid.
