An unknown number of student leaders under the Azimio-affiliated Movement for the Defence of Democracy Comrade's front (MDD) have been arrested.
The campus leaders who are currently being held at Central police station were arrested at Chester House during their presser with police terming the meeting unauthorized.
In a media invite, the group had called for a press conference to address three topics including; KUSO directions, the current state of affairs in Kenya and democracy strangulation.
This comes amid rising tension ahead of a call for mass action on Monday, March 20, 2023 by the Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya party leader Raila Odinga to protest against the rising cost of living, among other issues.
Odinga on Tuesday, March 14 unlawfully declared Monday, March 20 a public holiday while speaking during a political rally following a request from his 2022 presidential running mate Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua.
"I hereby declare, in the name of Azimio one Kenya Alliance, We declare that Monday, March 20 will be a public holiday.
"We do not want any kind of violence or bloodshed. It is going to be peaceful. We are only doing this because it is the only alternative that we have," Raila stated noting that the protests will be peaceful.
