Streetboy scores 336 marks in 2019 KCPE

A 19-year-old streetboy in Kakamega Town is delighted after he scored 336 marks out of the possible 500 in KCPE 2019.

Andrew Owino, who had dropped out of school in Class Six a few years ago, was among the eight street children, who wrote the national test at Kakamega Primary School.

Owino’s scores in respective subjects are as follows: Mathematics 72 per cent, English 57 per cent, Kiswahili 67 per cent, Science 67 per cent and Social Studies/Religious Education 73 per cent.

Owino and the seven other street children studied privately at Amalemba Salvation Army Church in Kakamega Town. Nathaniel Odongo, a Bachelor of Criminology student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), was their teacher. The volunteer is a former street urchin.

“Having been a streetchild myself, I understand the struggles these kids go through. I, therefore, try to assist them when and where I can,” said Odongo, who urged well-wishers to chip in and help Owino further his secondary school education.
