A Form Three student at a Yatta school in Kitui County has been arrested after she aborted her eight-month-old foetus.

The learner, 17, had Friday complained of stomach pain, prompting the school principal to direct that she be rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.

“At the health centre, the student was examined, and said to have conducted an abortion, but was treated and later discharged,” says a DCI report shared on Twitter on Saturday, January 30.

The medical report triggered a rigorous search around the school compound, which led to the recovery of a folded blue bedsheet tossed in a pit latrine, the DCI said.

The dead fotues, established to be male and 8 months old, was removed from the pit latrine.

“Its neck had a mosquito net wrapped around it,” said the DCI.

“The suspect was immediately apprehended, with the recovered body taken to a mortuary for autopsy.”
