State withdraws charges of attempted robbery levelled against female police officer

The state has withdrawn charges against a female police officer alongside two other suspects who were facing charges of attempted robbery.

Director of public prosecutions,(DPP), through state counsel Hillary Ishao informed Mombasa principal magistrate Vincent Adet that the state was seeking to have the charges levelled against Hellen Wanjiku, a police officer attached at the quarry police station in Embakasi, Fredrick Gateri and Harrison Biko withdrawn and the file forwarded to the regional director of public prosecutions.

"The prosecution has instructions that the police forward the file to the Regional head ODPP for further action, and following the directions, we seek to withdraw the matter and the file closed awaiting further directions," Ishao said.

Female police officer charged with attempted robbery

Last week the trio was arraigned before the court, where the magistrate ordered the suspects to be detained for four days, awaiting completion of investigations about the offense of attempted robbery.

The court heard that the suspects frequented Mama Ngina drive in search of vehicles and unsuspecting victims to prey on.

In his affidavit tabled before the court, investigating officer Frederick Muchiri told the court that on June 29, the trio attempted to break into a car parked at Mama Ngina, but the owner of the car was inside the car and the suspects immediately fleed.

"However, on June 30, the same suspects went to mama Ngina to rob unsuspecting Kenyans again. Following intelligence report on their activities, detectives intercepted them at the same place as they waited to steal from unsuspecting victims," Muchiri said.
