Five officers previously attached to the disbanded Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Special Services Unit(SSU) will remain under police custody at the Industrial area police station till Monday, October 31, 2022, following their arrest on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

The latest comes after Kahawa Law Courts Chief Magistrate Diana Mochache dismissed an application by the defence to stop Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) from investigating the officers.

In her ruling, Justice Mochache informed the court that the five will remain in custody till Monday awaiting judgement on whether they will be detained for further 30 days as requested by the state.

The state had asked for more days to pave room for further investigations.

Indians abducted

The five will be joining their colleagues in facing charges for allegedly abducting two Indian nationals and their driver.

In the incident, Mohamed Zaid Sami Kidwai, Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan and their driver Nicodemus Mwania Mwange were allegedly abducted near Ole Sereni, forced out of the taxi before being bundled into vehicles bearing GK numbers by members of the disbanded elite squad, before being escorted to Aberdares National Park.

The two Indians were reportedly in the country for business and commercial purposes before their disappearance and had hired a taxi operator to drive them around.

It is alleged that the Indians had jetted into the country in July to be part of President William Ruto’s campaign team.

Other cops arrested

Prior to the arrest of the five, four other cops had been arrested over the same issue.

The quartet, a chief inspector and three corporals were arrested after bones believed to be of the abductees were found in the Aberdare Forest after a two-day search.

Similarly, ten other officers had appeared before the IAU for grilling but more of their colleagues were added to the list of officers under investigation.

Those summoned include two Chief Inspectors, an inspector, three sergeants, nine corporals and five constables.
