The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has replaced former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko with Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo as Wiper Party's Mombasa gubernatorial candidate.

A three judge bench heard that the Kalonzo Musyoka led party submitted Mbogo’s name as its gubernatorial candidate with Sonko as running mate.

The electoral body, through its Lawyer Edwin Mukele, informed justice Stephen Githinji,Olga Sewe and Lady justice Anne Onginjo that Sonko was fighting a lost battle since Wiper had submitted names for the gubernatorial candidates on July 1 and he had been listed as the Mbogo's deputy.

Mukule who produced the letter before the court, informed the bench that in the letter to the commission by Wiper Democratic Movement, gubernatorial candidates for Mombasa county was pursuant to judgment by the Dispute Resolution Committee panel 1 requiring the party to submit the names of the candidates by July 1.

"From the date of the decision of the DRC committee which expired on July 1,names have since been forwarded to us for the Mombasa gubernatorial candidates in form 11l and you can see the party's decision is Sonko ti become Mbogo's running mate," he said.

The letter was signed by Mombasa county returning officer, Swalhah Ibrahim and National Elections Board chairperson Agatha Solitei.

The court is expected to issue it's ruling tomorrow.
