The assault case lodged in Voi Court against Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been dismissed.

The case was thrown out on Wednesday, January 21, 2020, following an application by the prosecution the previous day to withdraw the charges.

Sonko, who is battling a barrage of corruption charges, was accused of assaulting Coast regional police boss, Rashid Yakub, during his arrest.

In a video that filmed during his arrest in Voi, the governor assaulted the police boss as he resisted attempts to airlift to Nairobi on orders from the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

Haji had issued an arrest warrant against the governor to face corruption charges over the alleged theft of Sh357 million at City Hall through irregular tendering.
