Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and other county officials have been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday over irregular Sh357 million procurement.

The governor was escorted by anti-graft commission's officers to Milimani Law Courts at 8am after spending three nights in police custody.

Sonko is also set to be taken to Voi to face assault charges for attacking a senior police officer, Rashid Yakubu, during his arrest on Friday, December 6.

Mr Yakubu is the Coast regional police commander.

"On the 6th day of December 2019 at around 1230hrs at Ikanga Air Strip in Voi Sub County within Taita Taveta County unlawfully assaulted Mr Rashid Yakubu A.I.G the Regional Police Commander Coast, a police officer by kicking him in the thigh in the execution of his duties," reads the charge sheet seen by K24 Digital.

Several lawyers, led by Cecil Miller Jnr, Nelson Havi and Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, are already in court to represent the embattled governor.

Sonko appeared before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti at the Anti-Corruption Court.

The governor was arrested on orders from the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.
