June Nyomenda Sagero Onkundi, the nurse who was killed in North Carolina State by a patient last week will be buried in the United States of America (USA), a family member has disclosed.

Consequently, Abaga Sagero, a brother to the deceased, has appealed to his in-laws to organize at least four to six members of the family to travel to the USA to attend the funeral.

“We want our mother to travel to the USA and others to witness the funeral so that she can be satisfied psychologically,” Sagero told K24 Digital on phone yesterday.

Speaking on behalf of the family, he said Nyomenda’s children- a boy and three girls are Americans and the family decided that she be buried on a date to be announced.

The former Division Officer-turned politician said the family would mount big screens at their home in Nyasasa Village, South Mugirango in Kisii County for relatives and friends to follow the funeral live.

"Family and friends will have a church service at home before the funeral. We have lost a pillar of our family” Sagero said.

He urged the US government to conduct a thorough probe into why his sister was allowed to handle the mentally deranged patient- James Gomes, who is in custody.

He also queried why their kin was allowed to handle the patient, yet rules and regulations in the USA stipulate that male Nurses handle male patients and vice versa.

“Why was my sister allowed to treat a patient with a criminal record? The family wants to know” Sagero said.

Sagero, who hosted her sister in the US between1997 and 2003 before she was married to Nyabwari Onkundi noted that her death was a huge blow to the family who described her as a jewel.

“The couple was happy and had children aged between 9 and 16. The family stayed in North Carolina” Sagero said.

President William Ruto and Members of Parliament (MPs) Oscar Sudi, Silvanus Osoro condoled with the family. Others are Justice Charles Nyachae, former South Mugirango Mp, Manson Oyongo and businessman Jared Kangwana among others.
