Six people on Tuesday morning lost their lives while 30 others were left nursing wounds following a grisly road accident in Trans Mara, Narok county.

Mohamed Noor Hassan who is the Trans Mara Deputy County Commissioner told K24 Digital that the lorry which was ferrying the sugarcane cutters lost control near Moita area and collided head-on with a tractor.

“The lorry lost control and collided with the tractor which was ferrying the cane cutters from Mumias Sugar Factory. The area is more of a slope and most likely the driver was unable to control the lorry,” he said.

Five people lost their lives on the spot while one of them died while receiving treatment at a local hospital within Trans Mara.

The other 30 have been taken to a local hospital in Trans Mara Sub-County hospital for treatment.

Kevin Tamim an eye witness said that the vehicle was being driven at a high speed and the driver was unable to contain it leading to the accident.

“As the lorry was speeding down the slope, locals were heard wailing as they shouted on top of the voices before I heard a loud bang,” he said, adding that five people lost their lives on the spot.
