Six people have so far been reported dead as two are still trapped in the rubble from the building that collapsed in Makeji, Murang'a County.

Roads and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia this morning visited the site and has confirmed one of the survivors who was receiving treatment in the hospital passed on as three bodies were retrieved today.

Macharia is hopeful that the bodies of the two who are yet to be removed will finally be retrieved by end of the day today.

One person has been rescued alive today.

He has confirmed that the government is in the hunt for the people involved in the construction.

"The director of criminal investigations has already started the process of hunting down all the professionals concerned both at the National government and at the county level,” CS Macharia said.

The CS further said that the building which was also under construction adjacent to the hotel will be brought down.

“We will not want to have a recurrence of this kind of incident because it negates all the good work which has been done. Developers must be clear that they are doing investment in a safe environment,” said Macharia.

He warned developers against being driven by greed but rather consider the safety of people first.

“Greed should not be the determining factor that you want to build very quickly so that you can start getting returns, it should be the safety of the people who are constructing the building and the people who will use it once it is completed," Macharia said.
