Two orphaned sisters have trekked from Embu to Runyejes (25 kilometres) in order to raise Ksh2.2 million to have the body of their brother released from the mortuary.

Mumbi and Murugi narrated that they have been living as orphaned children together with their brother who died last month.

According to Mumbi, their brother Erick fell sick on December 27, 2022. The two sisters rushed him to a hospital in Kieni.

However, at the hospital, the sisters were referred to admit their kin at the Kenyatta hospital. Erick was undergoing treatment until he passed away on January 15, 2023.

Since then, the facility has refused to hand over his body for burial forcing the sisters to march in order to raise the funds needed to release his body.

"Erick aligonjeka tarehe 27, tukampeleka hospitali Kieni, tukareferiwa KU, amekua hapo for three weks kwa ICU bed. On 15 January alikuja akapass, bill ilkua imekuja 2.2million, upto now tumejaribu kuchanga chaga through friends yenye tumepata ni 25,000 tulipeleka pale bado hatukupewa mwili," a teary Mumbi recalled

A friend of the two also appealed to the national and county government to come to their aid.

"It is very hard to handle mental torture, hawa waschana wawili mnaona hapa hawana mzazi wamekua orphans pamoja na Erick, Erick sasa amewaacha, wamestruggle through sickness ya Erick, I want to appeal to Kenyans, our government to assist," one of the friend stated.
