Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has come out to address the scuffle between him and blogger Robert Alai during an Azimio rally held on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

Speaking to a local radio station, Sifuna clarified that the confrontation between him and Alai, who is eyeing the Kileleshwa MCA seat, was misunderstood by members of the public.

While stating that the situation was not as bad as people had made it seem, Sifuna, who is gunning for the Nairobi senatorial seat, further noted that he was preventing Alai from climbing on top of his car.

"It was just a safety issue, that was my vehicle, and you know cars have a carrying capacity….he is not a light guy,

"If I show you my windshield now, it is shattered, I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero that I use for the campaigns, and I took it to the shop to install a roof rack. So if you are going to come in my car, please come to the top," Sifuna added.

He further disclosed that he had tried to ask Alai to step away from his car politely, but he was reluctant, prompting action.

Alai and Sifuna physically confront each other

The two who had accompanied Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua on a tour of eight constituencies in Nairobi over the weekend engaged in a physical altercation.

In a viral video footage, Alai was seen climbing a vehicle where Sifuna was standing with other leaders allied to the coalition before confronting him physically forcing the ODM secretary general to defend himself against the attack.
