Two rival formations led by women lawmakers are battling for supremacy in the backdrop of the Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga Jubilee splinter groups.

The groups, Team Embrace and Inua Mama, are led by close allies of Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

Among the issues that divide Team Embrace and Inua Mama are the questions for the proposed referendum.

But the groups also concur on issues to do with women empowerment.

On Sunday at 9pm, Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei and Homa Bay Woman Representative are set to battle it out on Punchline with Ms Anne Kiguta.

Team Embrace is a cross-party alliance formed in January to popularize the unity deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Inua Mama league, comprising over 48 elected women leaders, was formed to counter Team Embrace.

Team Inua Mama has been touring the country holding fundraisers to help women form saccos while at the same time popularizing DP William Ruto.

Days after IEBC gave Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo Bill the nods, Ms Shollei tabled a constitutional amendment to increase the number of women MPs.

Gladys Shollei wants to create at least 179 positions for women in Parliament and county assemblies through elections, not party nominations.

But Ms Shollei wants the woman representative seat, county assemblies and Senate gender top-ups abolished.

Team Embrace has also been supporting youth groups in bid to ensure Uhuru-Raila handshake is felt in the grassroots.

"We began our work in January...and we said let us bring women together and put our voice into the unity discussion supporting the unity between Raila and President Kenyatta. The President has asked for politics to be ceased so that we can proceed with development," said Ms Wanga in July during an interview with a local television.
