Residents of Indangalasi village in Mumis East Sub-County, Kakamega county were left in a shock after a local high school student collapsed and died while helping a friend push a hand cart.

The death of Edwin Mahelo, 17, has left many in shock as his parents claim that he was not sick neither did he show any signs of any illness. They said that the student at St Anne's Indangalasia school helped them do some manual work at home on the morning of his death.

" He had helped me uproot cassava tubers before he left home for a walk. It is during the walk that he met our neighbor Sheban Opwora, a cart pusher, who asked him to help push his cart," the deceased mother Involate Lumbasi narrated.

The mother further said that her son only pushed the cart for a few meters before he fell down and died on the spot.

The family is now seeking financial help from well-wishers to fund a postmortem exam to help them determine the cause of their son.

"We are asking those with good hearts to help us finance a postmortem exam on the deceased to enable us to establish the cause of his death," the mother said.

The area chief Ismael Sakwa who confirmed the incident said that he was informed of the student's death by the area village elder.

"I was informed of the boy's death by the area village elder who had also informed the police about the matter," he said.

The deceased boy has since been moved to St Mary's Mission Hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy exam.
