A Shanzu court conducted a prayer session before kicking off court proceedings for controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie.

The prayers were led by the court clerk who prayed for the day's proceedings and requested God to protect the presiding magistrate, Senior Principal Magistrate, Yusuf Shikanda.

As the prayer session went on Mackenzie, his wife and eight other co-accused persons bowed their heads for the prayers.

Mackenzie turns violent

Earlier the preacher had become violent asking journalists at the court not to take photos of him accusing them of using glaring lights on his eyes.

Mackenzie's lawyer Wycliffe Makasembo enquired to know from him if the claims being levelled against him we true, he informed him that the government was framing the charges against him since they were interested in the vast Shakahola ranch.

"Wanataka tu shamba hakuna kitu kama hicho. Utalazimisha watu wafunge vipi? (They just want the land, there is nothing like that (cult). How can you force people to fast?" he lamented before he burst into laughter.
