An unknown number of people are feared dead after six gunmen opened fire on passengers, who were on board a Medina bus headed to Mandera from Nairobi.

K24 Digital understands that the gunmen, who were hiding in a shrubland, blocked the bus at the stretch between Wargadud and Kutulo Town around 4pm Friday, and separated local residents from ‘outsiders’ before fatally firing at the non-locals, who, unconfirmed reports suggest were eight.

The gunmen are alleged to be Al-Shabaab militants.

Wajir County Police Commander, Stephen Ng’etich, confirmed to K24 Digital that the shooting indeed took place, but he was yet to confirm the total number of those killed or injured.

“Once my team on ground gives me feedback, I will let you know,” he said on phone.

More soon.
