A former Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Isiolo Police Station has been arrested for allegedly stealing Sh148,000 cash bail money.

In a police report seen by Mediamax Digital, Fredrick Moses Odhiambo, allegedly failed to account for the money during his handover after being transferred to Garissa County.

“During the handing over to the incoming OCS on November 6, 2020, he (Odhiambo) could not account for cash bail money amounting to Sh148,000 deposited by accused persons released from cells to attend court on different dates as per cash bail receipts books serial no.0344901 to 0344950 and serial no.1330751 to 1330800,” the report filed at Isiolo police station read in part.

When asked about the cash, Odhiambo is said to have walked away from the station without completing the handover to the incoming OCS.

His actions prompted police officers to search for him whereupon they discovered that the OCS never even reported to his new station in Garissa County.

Consequently, he was presumed to have deserted duty.

But on Wednesday, December 30, Odhiambo was seized by members of the public at Maili Nane area within Buuri Sub County in Meru County.

The officer will be arraigned in court on Thursday, December 31.
