A senior detective attached to Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) collapsed and died at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) just few minutes after arriving from Japan.

Chief Inspector Monica Wambui Githaiga and her colleagues arrived at JKIA's Terminal 1E aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 719.

She started complaining of chest pains and was taken to Port Health Clinic where she passed on while being attended to.

Her colleagues said they came through Dubai where she also fell ill and was treated at the airport's medical facility.

The body was transferred to Chiromo mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters said investigations had been launched to establish cause of death.
