Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina has been arrested.

The senator was arrested in Nairobi on Tuesday morning in connection with his remarks before and during Narok's Building Bridges Initiative rally.

His comments to the effect that Narok and Kajiado counties belong to the Maa community and that non-locals should not seek elective positions have been subject to widespread condemnation.

Speaking on Monday in Murang'a County, MPs allied to Deputy President William led by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen called for Ole Kina's arrest.

The MPs, who were speaking at the burial of Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata's father, accused Ole Kia of inciting the Maa community against 'outsiders' in Narok County.

Senator Murkomen, MPs Ndindi Nyoro and Moses Kuria challenged Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga to condemn the remarks made by Mr. Ole Kina.

They said Mr. Kina's remarks appeared to suggest that non-Maa people are not welcome in Kajiado and Narok counties.

But the ODM chairman, Mr. John Mbadi, speaking on the Punchline show on Sunday, said that those who were angered by Mr. Kina's remarks are not open to an honest debate about historical injustices.
