The Senate's Chief Serjeant-at-Arms on Sunday night accidentally shot himself accidentally while confronting robbers in Thika town.

Joel Nkutibu is currently fighting for his life at a city-based hospital after he shot himself in the thigh as he engaged with the robbers.

He told the police that he was in a traffic jam near Bidco area when two men on a motorbike snatched a phone from him and attempted to flee.

A police officer told Mediamax Digital that Nkutibu, a licensed gun holder, reached for his gun and shooting in the air to scare the gang but he ended up shooting himself in the left thigh.

He was then taken to a city hospital and where doctors said he is in a stable condition.

Investigations have been launched into the matter to establish what happened.
