A security guard from Dangoretti has been charged with arson after setting a tenant's house on fire after he was dumped by the landlady.

The security guard identified as Patrick Kirimi set the house of a tenant after he was dumped by his lover Hanna Wambui Kinyanjui - the house's landlady. Kirimi is said to have felt bitter after the landlord dumped him.

The suspect is said to have burnt a house with commodities worth ksh100,000 in Waithaka, Dangoretti in Nairobi on July 30, 2021.

On the said day, Kirimi was allegedly seen within the area of the incident minutes before the fire broke out. Reports also say the suspect was seen inside the affected house without the knowledge of the tenant and the landlady.

By the time the fire was set on fire, Wambui was not around and it was her daughter who was around to inform her of the incident.

It took the intervention of the neighbors to help the authorities catch up with the suspect who was spotted trying to enter the house which had already caught fire.

While appearing before Kibera law court senior principal magistrate Derrick Kuto, Kirimi denied charges and was released on a ksh200,000 bond or a cash bail of a similar amount.

The case is set for trial in the next two months.
