Teachers at Maraba Secondary School in Aldai Constituency in Nandi County marched to the Aldai Sub-county education offices to protest an increase in insecurity in the area.

The teachers' complaint arose after students reportedly beat and badly injured a teacher at the school last week.

Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in the county led by Paul Rotich and teachers demonstrated demanding the arrest and punishment of the students responsible for the act.

“Can you imagine the teacher was on his way home after work when students attacked him with blunt objects injuring his right hand? What a shame!” Rotich said.

The teachers lamented that the incident was not the first saying such incidents have been taking place since a female teacher was also beaten by students last year.

“These students have become very indisciplined and we are going to use all means to ensure that justice is served for our colleague,” Salim Bhakit, who is the union’s treasurer, said.
