A father has burnt his five-month-old baby by putting his face in fire for suspicion that the child was not his own. The incident happened in Ngaratuko area of Saimo Soi ward, Baringo North on Sunday.

According to his wife Ann Kipyegon, the man who is also a school headteacher at Katakon Primary School came home drunk and accused her of infidelity insisting that the child doesn't belong to him and is not supposed to be alive.

Ann said she heard the baby crying and when she rushed into the house, his husband had locked the door from inside with the baby already inside fire. She says when she pushed the door in a bid to rescue the baby, the teacher hit her with a machete.

Kabarnet Children Officer Irene Chepkwony confirmed the heinous act saying that they have taken up the matter with police to ensure that the father, who has since run away, is arrested to serve as an example to the rest. These sentiments were echoed by Nancy Kiptum, who is in charge of Social Justice in Baringo, and Bartabwa MCA Reuben Chepsongol.

The baby is currently hospitalized at Baringo Referral Hospital with burns all over his face.
