Only last year Peter Salasya was struggling to make ends meet before he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mumias East constituency.

The young legislator recently decided to visit his former neighbours at a rental apartment in Kakamega where he used to stay.

"Today nimetembelea majirani wangu nilikuwa nikikaanao kwa ploti kakamega kabla niwe mubunge . They didn't believe I went back to see them," Salasya tweeted.

In a video he shared, the Mumias East MP asked some of his neighbours if they ever thought in their wildest imagination that he would make it to Parliament.

Ksh20 soap

Salasya also met a shopkeeper who used to sell him household items on credit. He revealed that he used to go to the shop to buy on credit a Ksh20 soap and a Ksh50 sugar.

"Ile deni nililipa? Sabuni ile nilikopa… Huyu sasa nlikua nakopa yeye kwa duka. Nlikua nakopa sabuni ya ngapi? Na Sukari ya ngapi?" Salasya told the shopkeeper.

The young legislator shared his struggle as he interacted with other locals in the same area he used to stay in before his big break.

"Ata kama leo unakopa kwa duka sabuni ya 20bob na sukuri ya 50bob the way I used to do ,it doesn't define your ending .We all have a bright future because God has good plans for all of us as long as we remain optimistic and hopeful. It was nice meeting and bonding once more," Salasya tweeted.
