Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has confirmed the introduction of the Sakaja Super Cup 1st edition to the county's football calendar.
While the exact format is yet to be disclosed, the County boss noted the football tournament will bring together 340 football clubs across all 85 Wards in the county.
In 10 weeks time, the teams will face each other and the top four in the table will become eligible for Ksh 3,000,000 prize.
"340 Teams, 10 Weeks, Winners at all levels. Unveiled the Sakaja Super Cup 1st edition where 4 teams in all our 85 wards will fight it out for the coveted cup and prize money of 3,000,000," the county boss stated in a social media post released on Thursday morning.
Sakaja also confirmed that "...the most decorated, innovative and disciplined fan base" will also be awarded although specific prize figures are still to be revealed.
The news comes as Sakaja outlines his plans for the growth of the talents and football games. He described the launch of the tournament as the ultimate fun.
"Lots of fun across the County! Let’s build and nurture talent from the ground up," part of his statement read.
So far there has never been an official tournament involving grassroots football teams coming together under Sakaja's governance.
The first tournament is set to kick off on September 30, 2023, and culminate on December 16.
