Nairobi residents will enjoy free eye consultations after the county government announced a free Surgical Eye Camp scheduled for June 7 and June 8, 2023.

In a statement shared by the county's Governor Johnson Sakaja, the county government announced that the event will be held at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm on the stipulated dates.

The move comes as part of joint efforts between the county government, Centers for Health and Education Programs, and Beta Charitable Trust.

Screening sessions are currently ongoing at Mama Lucy Kibaki and Mbagathi Hospital ahead of the exercise to smoothen the process.

"Screening currently ongoing at Mama Lucy Kibaki and Mbagathi hospitals for our free Surgical Eye Camp scheduled for the 7th and 8th of next month. Share widely, someone on your TL might be needing this," the statement reads in parts.

Apart from eye consultations, opticians at the event will conduct free cataract surgeries for those who need them.

A cataract is a clouding of the clear lens of the eyes, they start off as a small clouding that does not disturb eyesight but advances and eventually interferes with one's vision.

To get rid of them one needs to undergo a cataract surgery to avert the situation.
