A police officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto's private residence is admitted to a hospital in critical condition after he was attacked by a gardener.

Corporal Timothy Mugenda Rucha was hit on the rear part of the head by the gardener identified as Nicholas Rono.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the two had a confrontation before Rono hit Rucha.

"The gardener had a confrontation with the officer and it was in the course that he hit him on the rear part of the head," the police report read in part.

The officer is currently admitted at Nairobi West Hospital with several head injuries.

The gardener was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court.

Ruto security officer killed

In April this year, an investigation was launched into the murder of a GSU officer who was attached to Ruto.

Constable Samuel Ngatia who was part of the DP's escort was found dead and soaked in a pool of blood inside his house.

Instigations showed that he had been blown up in the head with a gun.

Officers have in the past been having trauma as the main reason behind weird behaviours such as kill of family members, friends, and colleagues.

Despite all these, they are expected to maintain law and order.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai had ordered that counselling be integrated into their curriculum.

"An initiative has to be put in place to ensure the police officers are provided with knowledge, tools, and framework on handling the traumatic situations," Mutyambai said.
