Deputy President William Ruto has pushed his fundraiser with boda boda riders and 10 SDA churches in Nyamira to next week.

Responding hours after Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba cancelled his meeting today and dispersed with teargas his supporters, DP Ruto said the fundraiser will still go on but on Thursday, October 15.

However, Ruto faulted the police for dispersing his supporters, saying the heavy-handedness was unnecessary.

Ruto was expected to land in Nyamira County at 2 pm shortly after attending a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi.

His ally, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi, also condemned county security official for using brute force against the public, saying the meeting lawful.

“[I] Held talk with the county commissioner last week and agreed the meeting was going on as planned but unfortunately he has decided to disrupt the meeting," said MP Kemosi.

The county commissioner Mariba cancelled the meeting citing violation of the new guidelines issued on Wednesday by the National Security Advisory Council on public gatherings.

The new guidelines require members of public or politicians planning gatherings to inform the police three days prior to their events.
