Matatu operators in Nakuru town on Monday morning engaged police in running battles after being denied access to the central business district (CBD).

The operators were trying to force their way to the Mashambani terminus in the town centre in defiance of a directive issued by Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui.

They vowed to paralyse transport operations in the town until they are allowed back to their stage.

One of the protesting drivers, Michael Macharia, said Governor Kinyanjui has been frustrating their operations.
